A Great Season
Heritage Academy vs. Ocotillo
A big thanks to all those who made the football possible. Coaches and players alike dedicated hundreds of hours to enable the first tackle football season for Heritage Heroes. A great season! Thanks for all the memories!

Heroes vs. East Valley
As anyone at Heritage knows, sometimes our line up of eligible players change from week to week based upon academics. Sometimes the Heroes are learning new positions days before the games knowing they will have to play both offense and defense. Games get long and tiresome when most players have to play all the game.
East Valley, unfortunately had a smaller team than Heritage. They started with 10 (8 being required on the field) and by the end of the game were down to 8 very tired players.
As I watched their frustration I admired their sportsmanship and the quality of their coaching. Taking pictures along the their sidelines and without their knowledge of being from Heritage, I never heard a curse word or a protest from a call by the Referee.
Indeed to the contrary, when one young man was hurt during a play he jumped up as fast as he could, hobbling around trying to get ready for the next play. The coach said "Hey, you don't have to get up. You do't have to play right away." The young man said, "Yes I do. We don't have anyone else." To which the coach said, "Hey, you got me. Come on out for a play."
Though the score shows that the Heroes won, I would say that the real Heroes were the Coaches from the East Valley team for setting such a great example of manhood for their team.
Way to go Heroes!

The Heroes and Cons of playing football
Not every game goes like the Homecoming Game. Sometimes you are on the other end. Heritage Heroes played the Mavericks from a school called Career. At first glance I thought that the team was supposed to be playing at the Mesa Community College but unfortunately they were at the correct field. More than one of the players were 6' tall and one offensive end had to be 6'8". Rumor has it that Career is not really a school where you graduate. It's more of a school where you move to Sheriff Joe's Team when you are no longer a legal juvenile.
The Heroes played like the men of great character representing the Heritage Academy. Though they were blasted with racial epithets from the other team, they kept their integrity and played hard 'till the last whistle. They we were great sports unlike the team the Heroes played last week.
If you remember the last game, before halftime the Heroes had scored a few touchdowns and the opposing coach thought it was his responsibility to referee the game or at least tell the Referee what he thought of them. This resulted in 2 personal fouls against the coach and then being ejected from the park. Taking up the coaches' responsibilities was one of the players who decided that attacking the Referee would be the right thing to do. He was summarily ejected and the game was called - Heroes win. They played like heroes.
fri. sept 28... Big Win for Homecoming. In their first year of tackle football, Heritage Academy Heroes win big for their first ever homecoming game against James Madison Charter School Patriots.
Not only was it a perfect night for the players, it was also a perfect night out. Check out the stunning sunset and the rest of the team photos. If you would like to order any, please contact me.
