Heritage vs. Sequoia

The game went on inspite of being infested by Biblical porportions of grasshoppers. Unfortunately, even with prayer and repentance the team couldn't pull off the win. It was still a great time! The Heroes played pretty well and are looking forward to next year to play them again. Nice job Heroes! Enjoy the slide show.

First Day Back to School

It's back to school again! Heritage Academy would like to welcome you back to the 2008-2009 school year. It is sure to be a lot fun - especially when you participate.
Since I am writing this from the photography class, I would like to welcome those of you new to this class. Be sure and bring your camera, batteries and USB cord on Wednesday and Thursday.
I will have the course syllabus posted soon for all the parents and would like to have your parents address so that I may correspond with them.
This year we are having some students return. I am calling this an advanced class and will be requiring different assignments from them. Most of what you as advanced students will be assigned will end up either on the walls of the school or in this online yearbook. This is the place to find all the events and activities of the school.

Joseph and the Amazing
Technicolor Dreamcoat

Under the direction of Gary Helmbold, Heritage Academy put on this great musical and, if I must say so, did it better than Donnie Osmond etc.

Geat choreography, singing, acting and the band was great! Everyone should see this performance!

Heritage v Sequoia

Basketball is here and so I thought I should include some of our teams game. It's tough shootin basketball, you never know where the ball is going to be and there isn't a lot of light inside. So, what I am saying is, if the pictures aren't just perfect, too bad, it's the best I could do. Hope you enjoy them.
By the way, if you can't beat these guys, just hold on to them.

Amy and John Campbell

We are all so happy for Amy Thornton Campbell and that lucky guy John Campbell for finding her. Amy teaches Music at Heritage Academy and I am sorry that I don't know what John does for a living. But I will find out and post it here soon.

Here is another photo of theirs that you might enjoy.

Comfort and Joy....
tuesday.dec 11th...Mesa Arts Center

In the busy world in which we live, what could we wish for more than these two things - Comfort and Joy.
The Heritage Academy Music Department, under the talented direction of Amy Thornton and assisted by Anne Jerman, strings assistant with accompanist Mary ellen Loose presented a collection of old and new favorites at the Mesa Arts Center. Nothing says Christmas better than music and I believe that Heritage has some of the most talented Scholars in the valley.
I know that there are 3 different Choirs but I didn't separate out the pictures for them. Deal with it. The Band and Orchestra and Honor Strings were separated. Enjoy.

I Believe ...
thurs. nov 29th...Mesa Arts Center

Heritage Academy Dancers presented 'I Believe...' a collection of some of the most beautiful expressions in dance that I have seen in a long time. Dance Director, Mrs. Stephanie F. Maughan and Ballroom Instructor Christine Kenney have spent hours of time helping the scholars to appreciate the are of dance and the art of performance. The pictures are split into 8 different catagories: All dancers, Ballroom Dance, Dance 4, Dance 3/2A, Dance 3/2B, Dance 2/4A, Dance 2/1B and Dance 1. I have no idea what the numbering system is and I hope that I got all the pictures in the right catagories. Merry Christmas.

Heritage Academy Trunk or Treat

A big thanks to all who made the Trunk or Treat a HUGE success! As you can see in the pictures, all who came had a good time. Besides the costumes and the cotton candy, there were other games and events to participate in. First place in the Car decoration was the 'Don't text and Drive'. Take a look.

The Battle of the bands actually last the last in the evening even thought it appears first in pictures.

Heroes vs. East Valley

As anyone at Heritage knows, sometimes our line up of eligible players change from week to week based upon academics. Sometimes the Heroes are learning new positions days before the games knowing they will have to play both offense and defense. Games get long and tiresome when most players have to play all the game.
East Valley, unfortunately had a smaller team than Heritage. They started with 10 (8 being required on the field) and by the end of the game were down to 8 very tired players.
As I watched their frustration I admired their sportsmanship and the quality of their coaching. Taking pictures along the their sidelines and without their knowledge of being from Heritage, I never heard a curse word or a protest from a call by the Referee.
Indeed to the contrary, when one young man was hurt during a play he jumped up as fast as he could, hobbling around trying to get ready for the next play. The coach said "Hey, you don't have to get up. You do't have to play right away." The young man said, "Yes I do. We don't have anyone else." To which the coach said, "Hey, you got me. Come on out for a play."
Though the score shows that the Heroes won, I would say that the real Heroes were the Coaches from the East Valley team for setting such a great example of manhood for their team.
Way to go Heroes!

The Heroes and Cons of playing football

Not every game goes like the Homecoming Game. Sometimes you are on the other end. Heritage Heroes played the Mavericks from a school called Career. At first glance I thought that the team was supposed to be playing at the Mesa Community College but unfortunately they were at the correct field. More than one of the players were 6' tall and one offensive end had to be 6'8". Rumor has it that Career is not really a school where you graduate. It's more of a school where you move to Sheriff Joe's Team when you are no longer a legal juvenile.
The Heroes played like the men of great character representing the Heritage Academy. Though they were blasted with racial epithets from the other team, they kept their integrity and played hard 'till the last whistle. They we were great sports unlike the team the Heroes played last week.
If you remember the last game, before halftime the Heroes had scored a few touchdowns and the opposing coach thought it was his responsibility to referee the game or at least tell the Referee what he thought of them. This resulted in 2 personal fouls against the coach and then being ejected from the park. Taking up the coaches' responsibilities was one of the players who decided that attacking the Referee would be the right thing to do. He was summarily ejected and the game was called - Heroes win. They played like heroes.

leftboxLimited Edition Homecoming Prints

I have had many people ask about the availability of the poster taken at the homecoming game. It is available for Heritage Scholars and their parents. This poster is 24" x 36" and is mounted on foam core board. The pigments should be for lifetime. It is printed on Premium Luster Photo Paper. As a personal note, the sunset is exactly as it was that night - perfect. Contact me directly. See other posters.
